Science Illustration Mentorship

Scientific Illustration merges science and art. Through this mentorship program, professional illustrators visit K-12 classes (virtually) and provide lessons on drawing techniques, field sketching, and nature journaling. They introduce students to career opportunities in the field of Scientific Illustration.

The Western Flyer Foundation partners with Return of the Natives to deliver science illustration mentorship to elementary school classes in Monterey Peninsula Unified School District (MPUSD) as part of the MPUSD’s Eco-Ambassadors program.

We were curious. Our curiosity was not limited, but was as wide and horizonless as that of Darwin or Agassiz or Linnaeus or Pliny, We wanted to see everything our eyes would accommodate, to think what we could, and, out of our seeing and thinking, to build some kind of structure in modeled imitation of the observed reality.
