The Western Flyer Heads North — Follow Along in the Crew’s Log

On April 25, the Western Flyer departed Moss Landing for its Pacific Northwest expedition—a nearly two-month journey that will take the vessel and crew north along the coast, with a return planned for mid-June.

Along the way, the Flyer will serve as both a working research vessel and floating classroom, hosting student programs, community events, and collaborative science in ports throughout Oregon and Washington.

To capture the journey as it unfolds, we’re continuing a tradition we began during our 85th Anniversary return to the Gulf of California: a Crew’s Log.

Part journal, part photo stream, and part collection of stories from life aboard, the log brings together real-time updates from the crew—messages from the galley, the deck, and the ports along the way—along with additional context to help tell the full story of the voyage.

Entries are posted in near real time, with the most recent at the top.
